Black Media Representation: Inequalities and Interventions

In observance of Black History Month, this Wednesday, LUX and Brukab Sisay will be having a discussion on representation in Black media. In this talk, we will discuss inequalities in Black media representation and think through some potential large and small scale interventions.

Brukab Sisay is a visiting lecturer in the Department of American Ethnic Studies, teaching courses in African American Studies. Born in Ethiopia, Brukab was raised in South King County, and attended the University of Washington, Seattle for his undergraduate degree where he graduated with a B.A. in American Ethnic Studies and a minor in Education, Learning, and Society. He then earned his M.A. in the African Diaspora Studies Program at the University of California, Berkeley. Brukab is also an aspiring farmer and dreams of a simpler life farming for the people.
